TexasSure is the vehicle insurance verification system that allows law enforcement and county tax officials to confirm whether a vehicle in Texas has required personal auto liability insurance coverage.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles began the program in June of 2008 for county tax offices and on Oct. 1, 2008 statewide for law enforcement use. More than 30 other states have some type of insurance verification programs.
TexasSure checks whether your vehicle is properly insured each time you register or renew your vehicle registration and when an inquiry is made by law enforcement.
It is stil important for you to carry your proof of insurance card with you as not all law enforcement agencies have access to the system. Additionally, though rare, there have been instances when the TexasSure system has not matched up a driver's insurance to the insured vehicle.
