The Fort Worth Police Department Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit is conducting its summer-long high visibility traffic enforcement program called TACT (Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks) to reduce major crashes involving large commercial vehicles.
Fort Worth has seen a reduction in crashes involving commercial vehicles this year. In 2012, there was a 10 percent decrease in fatal crashes involving commercial vehicles. So far in 2013, police officials have recorded a 40 percent reduction in those types of crashes.
TACT is a federal program used nationwide by law enforcement agencies. Since this effort is also about educating the public about the dangers of driving around commercial vehicles, officers are handing out educational materials during traffic stops.
